Mr Guy Seaburne May and Miss Argenton Fryer

The marriage took place yesterday at St Saviour’s Walton Street, of Mr Guy Seaburne May, second son of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Reginald Seaburne May and the late Lady May, of Bughtrigg, Coldstream, Berwickshire, and Miss Argenton Fryer, second daughter of the late Lieutenant-Colonel John Fryer 7th Hussars, and of Mrs John Fryer, of Derwent Hall, Stamford Bridge, York. Prebendary Osborne officiated, assisted by the Rev. Arthur Rose Fuller.

The bride, who was given away by her mother, was escorted up the nave by her uncle, Admiral Sir Cyril Fuller. She wore a gown of silver lame with a square draped neckline and long tight-fitting sleeves. The train fell from the waist and was bordered with antique Brussels lace, worn by her mother at her wedding, and a veil of old Brussels lace lent by her aunt, Mrs Abbot Robinson, had been worn by her grandmother. The five grown-up bridesmaid – Miss Jill Fryer (sister of the bride), Miss Kitty Fryer (cousin of the bride) Miss Gundred Cunlife, Miss Patricia Drake (cousin of the bridegroom) and Miss Betty Otto – wore dresses of pale pink accordion-pleated chiffon, with short pleated sleeves and dark red velvet sashes. They had shaded feather quills in their hair, and carried bouquets of dark red carnations. Their aquamarine brooches were gifts of the bridegroom. Mr William May was the best man to his brother. Mrs Fryer afterwards held a reception at 40, Ponts Street (lent by Major and Mrs Sanford). Amoung those present were:-

Miss Argenton Fryer, daughter of the late Lieu-Colonel J Fryer and Mrs Fryer of Derwent Hall, Stamford Bridge was married to Mr G.S.May, son of Lieu-General Sir R. Seaburne May.

Admiral Sir Cyril Fuller accompanied his niece, Miss Argenton Fryer second daughter of the late Lieut-Col John Fryer, 7th Hussars, and of Mrs John Fryer, of Derwent Hall, Stamford Bridge, York to St Saviour’s Church Walton Street, Chelsea where she was married to My gut Seaburne May, second son of Sir Reginald Seaburne May, K.C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O., and the late lady May of Bughtrigg, Coldstream, Berwickshire.  The ceremony was performed by there Rev. A.R. Fuller, Domestic Chaplain to the King at Sandringham.  The church was decorated with lilies and pink gladioli.  The bride was given away by her mother.  The honeymoon will be spent in Majorca.

Wore Her Grandmother’s Wedding Veil

The wedding took place at St Saviour’s Walton Street, of Mr Guy Seaburne May, second son of Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Reginald Seaburne May and the late Lady May, of Bughtrigg, Coldstream, Berwickshire, and Miss Argenton Fryer, second daughter of the late Lieutenant-Colonel John Fryer 7th Hussars, and of Mrs John Fryer, of Derwent Hall, Stamford Bridge, York.

The bride wore a silver lame, with square draped neck falling in soft lines and tight fitting selves.  The train, cut in one with the dress, fell from the waist and was bordered with antique Brussels lace, worn by the bride’s mother on her wedding day.  She also wore a veil of old Brussels lace worn by her grandmother at her wedding.

The bridesmaid were Miss Jill Fryer , Miss Kitty Fryer, Miss Patricia Drake Miss Gundred Cunlife, and Miss Betty Otto.  Their dresses were of pale pink pleated chiffon with tight-fitting bodices and rounded necks and short pleated sleeves.  They also wore dark red velvet sashes, and holes of shaded pink feather quills.

LONDON WEDDING MR GUY SEABURNE MAY AND MISS ARGENTON FRYER The wedding took place at St. Saviour’s, Walton Street, London, on Monday, between Mr Reginald (error in newspaper!!) Seaburne May, second son of Lieut.-General Sir Reginald May, K.C.B., and the Lady May, of Bughtrigg, Coldstream, and Miss Argcnton Fryer, second daughter of the late Lieut Colonel John Fryer, 7th Hussars, and of Mrs Fryer, Derwent Hall. Stamford Bridge, York. Mr May is a solicitor with the Newcastle firm of Messrs Cope and Jackson. He was a member of the Northumberland squash rackets team which reached the final the County Championship this year, and also played rackets for Wellington.

The bridegroom’s father was formerly Commandant Sandhurst, and also held an administrative post at the Northern Command Headquarters at York, and is now Quartermaster General to Forces, whereas the bride is also well known in Yorkshire society, and for the last few seasons has been a regular follower the Middleton Hounds. Miss Fryer is also a niece Admiral Sir Cyril and Lady Fuller. The Church of St. Saviour’s was tastefully decorated with pink gladiolus and blue hydrangeas, and officiating clergy were Prebendary Osborne, Vicar of St. Saviour’s, and the Rev. Arthur Rose Fuller, M.V.O., domestic chaplain to His Majesty the King and Rector of Sandringham. The hymn “O Perfect Love” was sung to the tune composed by the bride’s late father. Their dresses were of pale pink accordion-pleated chiffon, with tight-fitting bodices and rounded necks and short pleated sleeves. They also wore dark red velvet sashes and haloes of shaded pink quill feathers, and carried bouquets of dark red carnations to match their sasbea. They were presented with aquamarine brooches by the bridegroom. The best man was Mr William May, brother of the bridegroom, and the groomsmen were Mr Frederick Fryer, Mr Jack Monteith, and Mr David Drummond. Mrs Fryer, the bride’s mother, wore a dress of royal-blue corded silk, and the bridegroom’s stepmother was in black. After the ceremony a reception was held at 40, Pont Street. S.W.I, kindly lent by Major and Mrs Sanford. Only relatives and close friends attended. The ‘honeymoon is being spent in Majorca, and the bride travelled in pink shantung dress with touches navy blue, and wore a small navy taffeta hat with pink and blue quills.
