The Hingham Journal, October 26th 2011
Charles Edward Clute 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 15, 2011 with his beloved wife Jane and his faithful dog Josie at his side.
Although a native and resident of Massachusetts for most of his life he relocated to Virginia and spent many happy years in Midlothian. Charlie loved the sea and was very proud of his service in the Merchant Marines during WWII, serving in the Atlantic, Pacific and Mediterranean theatres. He left the service as a Lieutenant and went on to manage a banana plantation in Honduras for the United Fruit Company for many years. He developed an industrial tool sales business in Hingham, Massachusetts which he ran enthusiastically until he retired at 85. He is survived by his son, H Merrill Clute and three granddaughters, Nicola, Jessica and Stephanie of Fredericksburg. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date with a gathering of his dearest friends in Hingham where his remain will join his first wife, Monique and his beloved son Peter.
For the wonderful care given to him during the last few weeks of his life, memorial gifts in his memory sent to Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Parkway, Richmond VA 23227 would be greatly appreciated.
May he truly rest in peace… that peace of God that passes all human understanding. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)
