A Musical Peer.
Lord Crofton, who celebrated his 72nd birthday on Sunday, is well known as a skilful and talented composer. He has given us several sacred songs and chants, while that well-known hymn “0 Perfect Love,” which has become so popular at weddings, is from his pen. The anthem which he wrote for the marriage of the Earl and Countess of Kinnoull was one of his best compositions, and came in for much admiration.

A Peer Musician
Lord Crofton, who has just celebrated his seventy-fifth birthday, is a large landlord in County Roscommon. He has a claim to distinction which few members’ of the Upper House possess—he composes music with the skill of a professional. His setting of “O Perfect Love,” the favourite wedding hymn, is very well known; but he has also written some church and organ music, as well as sacred songs.
Lord Crofton was the inventor of a form of entertainment known in society as “gem tea.” The invited guests each had to take precious stones of various kinds, and, as may be imagined, the effect was sometimes very brilliant.
