Lord Crofton died at Mote Park, Ballymurry, Co. Roscommon, on Monday at the age of 75, as briefly announced in our later editions yesterday.
Arthur Edward Lowther Crofton, fourth Baron, Seventh Baronet, and a representative peer for Ireland, was the son of the late Hon C. St G. Crofton, brother of the third Baron. He was born on August 7, 1866 and educated at wellington. In 1886, he entered The Northumberland Fusiliers, was promoted Captain in 1895, and became adjutant of the 3rd Volunteer Battalion in 1886. He succeeded to title in 1912. During true last war he served as Lieutenant-Colonel, and was mentioned in the dispatches. Lord Crofton was D.L. for Roscommon. IN 1893 he married Jesse Castle, daughter of Mr J. Hewitson and widow of Mr Neville Paddon. The heir to the barony is his grandson, Edward Blaise Crofton, a naval cadet, aged 16 – the son of Lord Crofton’s eldest son, the Hon. Edward Charles Crofton who died in 1936.
