The unexpected death of My Charles John Price of The Grove, Esher, at the early age of 57, after an illness of little over a week, has cast a gloom over the parish, in which he has resided for many years.  The deceased gentleman lived a quiet and unassuming life amount his neighbours, by whom he was universally respected.  He was a member of the well known firm of Nobles and Hoare, which was founded by his grandfather, Mr Noble over 80 years ago, and took a lively and considerate interest in the welfare of his workplace, both in London and at The Grove.  Mr Price, was for some years hon. secretary of the hospital in the Waterloo Road, where his influence and kindness of heart were much felt and appreciated.  He was an ardent sportsman and one of the oldest supporters of the Surrey Union Hunt, following the hounds regularly, and in order to enjoy the same sport in the New forest, he built a charming hunting box at Lyndhurst, from which centre, when time permitted, he hunted with the New Forest packs and the other hounds.  Mr Price leaves a widow and six children, by whom his loss will be greatly felt, and the sincerest sympathy is felt for them in their sudden and sad bereavement.  The family’s been long connected with the neighbourhood, the deceased gentlemen being a nephew of the late Mr Thomas Price, of Heywood, formerly High Sheriff for the county.  Mr Price succumbed to a sever attack of peritonitis, caused by a chill.  He was attended by Dr Izod and Dr Dixon with unremitting care and kindness.  The funeral took place at Esher on Thursdayand was attended by a numerous company of relatives and sympathizing friends. The service was conducted by the Rev J. Price (brother of the deceased), assisted by the Rev R. England and the Rev H Walshaw..  On entering the church the organist, Mr W. Webb, played “Oh rest in the Lord.” and at the conclusion of the ceremony, a funeral march.  At the graveside the choir boys sang a hymn.  The mourners were the widow, the members of the family, and a number of relatives.  Dr Dixon. assistant to Dr Izod, deceased’s medical attendant was also present.  The coffin, which was polished oak, with heavy brass furniture, bore the following “Charles John Price, born April 7th 1838: died August 12th 1895.”  A number of exquisite floral tributes were sent by Mrs Price; Owen, Heather Aubrey, Noel, Gladys and Phyllis: Mrs G. Ede (Fairfield), Mrs Ralph Pemberton Koe, Misses Effie and Coralie Koe (Hampton Wick), Miss Raikes, Mr and Mrs J Rolls Hoare (Cadogan Square) Athel, Mr J Earley Cook (Kn0wle Hill Cobham), G.I.and F Ohlson, Mrs Crompton, Margaret, MR and Mrs Ernald Few (Lower Green, Esher), Mrs and the Misses Bannister (Leatherhead), the Counting House Home Department, the workmen of the firm, the servants of the house and many others. Messrs J Pratt and Sons carried out the arrangements.
