Funeral of Mr J.S. May at Ottery St. Mary.

The funeral took place at Ottery St. Mary of Mr. Job Seaburne May, of Southernhay, Ottery. Aged 86, Mr May  was a sheep farmer in Australia for more than 30 years.  He returned to England in 1904 and went to reside in Ottery in 1921.  He was the son of the late Mr. J. W. May of Liverpool and married Miss Chilton, a member of another well-known Merseyside family.  His wife died in 1928.  The service at the parish church was conducted by the Vicar (the Rev. L. B. Stallard) assisted by the Rev. G.A. Ayre.

Mourners were Com. C.E.S. Farrant, R.N., and Mrs Farrant, Lieut-Com I.B. Farrant, R.N., Capt. A. May R.N..and Mrs May, and Mr and Mrs Seaburne Rayner (nephews and nieces), Mrs Creaghe-Haward and Mrs Chilton (sisters-in-law) and Mr. R. Lindsay (solicitor).

Amount others present at the church were the Rev. R.W. Baker (Rector of Tellisford, Somerset), and Mrs Baker, Messrs. H Grigg, T.J. Whicker, J Hellier, W. Lawrence, W.F. Luxton, C.S. Purdy, J. M.O. Johnson, and R.W. Rawls.  Mr and Mrs Stuckley, Mr and Mrs G. Fisher Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Godfrey, Mesdames Dunford, W.M. Stuckley, Hellier, T. Salter, and E. Way, the misses E.C. Clarke, A.M. Clarke, Spurway (2), and Cornish, and Nurse Loosemoor.

Mr Job Seaburne May, of Southernhay, Ottery St. May, who died on November 20th, son of the late J.W.S May of Liverpool, left £12,117 gross, with net personal of £10,129.  Probate has been granted to Rollo Christian Lindsay of Cook Street, Liverpool and his nephew, Archibald Seaburne May: £50 to Lady Violet Dobbie: £60 to his housekeeper, Emily Slade, if still in his service and not under notice either given or received: £10 to his housemaid, Nuna Brownsell, similarly: 

The £50 each to the executors: £50 each to his sister-in-law, Mary Somerville, Creaghe Haward and Holda Barbara Cardyne Chilton: £100 to his godson, Seaburne Lord l”Estrange: and the residue of the property to his nephews, C. Eric S. Farrant and Ivan B. Farrant, or their issue attaining majority.
