Letters From my Grandmother –

Here are various letters written by   my Grandmother Mary Price during the period 1896 to 1899.  At the time she would have been between 8 and 12 years old.  Remarkable penmanship and letters show a sign of real maturity.  The letters read from left to right columns and then down.  Enjoy them they are worth the read!!

  1. Granny Ayam – as I knew her – was an angelic woman, always laughing and having fun. She used to take me off aged 5 or 6 to light bonfires in Hugh and Betty’s garden. Once the bonfire so big we burnt down an apple tree. On another occasion her hair caught fire. We both thought it was terribly funny! She loved playing Halma and Begger my Neighbour.
    She writes the sweetest letters.

    • What wonderful memories you have of her. I remember those bonfires so well – She loved bonfires and I am surprised more was not burnt down. Always a cigarette hanging from her mouth!. I have sent you a separate email which hopefully you will get Peter
