KHAKI IN THE LORDS
Lord Crofton is the first Peer take his seat in the House of Lords in khaki (assume military uniform), but this afternoon’s ceremony was interesting in another way for the Crofton Peerage has been absent from the roll of the Upper House for some years. Lord Crofton succeeded his uncle as fourth Baron in 1912, his predecessor, who had attained the advanced age 78, being one of the oldest members in the gilded Chamber.
The Crofton barony is one of the Irish representative peerages, and the new holder, who is fifty years of age, has been in the Army since 1886. His whole military career has been spent with the Northumberland Fusiliers, and has been engaged in the present war with one of the service battalions of that famous regiment.
